Inspiring nurses to tackle patient flow challenges

Nick Miller, Programme Manager for the FCA joined a panel of experts on Wednesday 12 May, to discuss how nurses can work to tackle flow challenges and make improvements to the way patients experience care.

Attended by over 300 nursing professionals across the UK, the event took place online and brought together individuals with an interest in how healthcare professionals can work in new innovative ways to make positive changes to services.

The programme included two days of dedicated talks, covering topics such as discharge to access, saving patient’s time, taking positive improvements forward from the pandemic and wider working practice for nurses.

In Nick’s session, he spoke about how The Flow Coaching Academy approach has transformed the way gastroenterology patients receive care in Devon and Exeter and explained how nurses have been integral to this project and the work in the Big Room.

The talk was well received by those in attendance, and a number of delegates were keen to better understand how they could make the most of this opportunity in their own context.

Nick commented: “Nurses, midwives and health visitors make up 54% of the NHS workforce which ultimately means that they could make the biggest impact when working towards improving patient flow for patients.
