First training cohort in Lancashire & South Cumbria graduate
Coaches join in celebration event to mark course completion
This week, coaches from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR), Greater Preston and South Ribble CCG and University Hospitals of Morecombe Bay came together for their final Flow Coaching Academy (FCA) session to recognise and praise their achievements and successfully graduate from the programme.
Joined by Executive Sponsor Dr Gerry Skailes, Oncologist and Medical Director at LTHTR, and (Dr) Tom Downes, Clinical Lead of the FCA, the 28 coaches presented what they had achieved in their Big Rooms so far, and what they hoped to continue to work on following graduation.
As the first training cohort across Lancashire & South Cumbria, this programme has seen 14 Big Rooms established in the region, adding to the existing four Big Rooms already working in Colorectal Cancer, Acute Frailty, Sepsis, and Inflammatory Bowel Disorder.
Stuart Clough, Associate Director of Continuous Improvement at LTHTR, commented: “Seeing our first training cohort finally graduate is such an achievement to our FCA faculty and coaches. It’s been a roll coaster of a ride with us having to put sessions on hold due to the pandemic and think of alternative online delivery methods whilst we continued to socially distance.
“The FCA is fundamental to our improvement strategy in Lancashire and thanks to the determination of our coaches we have seen them graduate. It’s been fantastic to hear about the great work they’ve already achieved in their Big Rooms and their plans post-graduation.

“I am confident that those training in our second cohort will be able to take learnings from our first cohort and form the basis of our local FCA network.”
