BMJ award win for the Gestational Diabetes Big Room
A huge well done to FCA Northern Ireland and the Gestational Diabetes Big Room team for winning a BMJ award!
It was announced last night that the Gestational Diabetes Big Room from FCA Northern Ireland won the BMJ award in the Innovation in Quality Improvement Team category. A huge well done to FCA Northern Ireland and the Gestational Diabetes Big Room team!
The team has made impressive impact with their Big Room where their goal was to reduce the frequency of appointments, the waiting times and the flow of clinic visits from one professional to the next.
Since starting their Big Room, their key achievements include a 65% reduction in waiting times, a 32.7% reduction in face-to-face appointments for women attending the diabetes clinic and a 25% reduction in face-to face appointments for women attending the obstetrics clinic.
This means that for patients, the changes introduced by the Gestational Diabetes Big Room has resulted in less travelling, less waiting around at the hospital and patient’s feeling more confident in managing their own care. In addition to this, their model is also replicable at additional clinics and there are plans to spread this to pre-gestational diabetes care.
Needless to say, the work the Gestational Diabetes Big Room from FCA Northern Ireland has, and continues to achieve is amazing and is making a real difference in their patients care. They are more than deserving of their BMJ award win! Well done the Gestational Diabetes Team!
